Healthcare Science 'Super Samples' game for STEM careers

Super Samples’ interactive game for school pupils on Healthcare Science

My world of work game about our Biomedical Scientists and Clinical Scientist went live on Biomedical Science day.

An interactive game which teaches school pupils about careers within Healthcare Science in the NHS is now available online! The game has been developed in partnership with PSD Scotland Healthcare Science team and My World of Work Live for a national experiential learning programme by Skills Development Scotland.

This fun educational game (aimed primarily at school pupils ranging from Primary 5 to Secondary 3) tasks players to get as many medical samples as possible to the laboratory to be analysed and give a diagnosis for their patients. This game can be used to promote Biomedical Science at STEM career events – it is available live at with a lesson plan now created for school teachers directing them to the IBMS and NHS Scotland Careers for Biomedical and Clinical Scientists.

Biomedical Science Day 2026 School Activity

Classroom Clash Super Samples: Beat the Clock Challenge

To mark Biomedical Science Day 2026 on the 4th June, we’re inviting schools across Scotland to take part in Super Samples: Beat the Clock – a fun, interactive classroom challenge that brings biomedical science and NHS laboratory careers to life.

Based on the Super Samples classroom resource from My World of Work, the challenge gives learners the opportunity to step into the role of an NHS laboratory team. Working together against the clock, pupils follow the journey of patient samples through the laboratory and experience firsthand how teamwork, problemsolving and timely decisionmaking support patient care.

The focus is on participation, curiosity and collaboration. Classes race against time rather than against each other, reflecting the realities of NHS laboratories where accuracy and efficiency matter every day. There is no pass or fail – every school that takes part is recognised for getting involved.

Super Samples: Beat the Clock supports learning for life and work by helping young people:

  • understand what biomedical scientists do

  • see how science subjects link to real NHS careers

  • develop teamwork and communication skills

The challenge uses existing, readymade resources, making it easy for schools to take part during Biomedical Science Day or at any point during the surrounding week.

By taking part, schools will be helping to celebrate the vital role of biomedical scientists and inspire the next generation to consider careers in healthcare science.

Download our Teachers Pack below to find out how you can take part in our Super Samples challenge to participate from 1st June -5th June 2026.
