Redefining the Healthcare Science Workforce in Scotland

The Scottish Government’s new strategy, “Redefining Our Workforce”, sets out a clear vision for healthcare science in NHS Scotland. It introduces a single national definition of healthcare scientists, five professional groupings, and refined career levels to strengthen identity, visibility, and leadership.

This paper is a key step towards embedding healthcare science expertise in service planning, supporting innovation, and building a future-ready workforce.
