Current Opportunities

NES Healthcare Science are currently offering the following funding support for the financial year 2025-26:

Expressions of Interest for Supernumerary Pre-registration Training Posts for Clinical Scientists and Clinical Perfusionists

NHS Education for Scotland Healthcare Science will soon be inviting expressions of interest for supernumerary pre-registration training posts for Clinical Scientists and Clinical Perfusionists.

These posts offer science graduates a unique opportunity to enter the NHS and undertake a three-year training programme in a specialist area, which may include an MSc. Upon completion, trainees will be eligible for statutory registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as Clinical Scientists or registration with the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists.

We are gathering this evidence of workforce demand through this expression-of-interest process. If your service is interested in hosting a trainee, we encourage you to submit an expression of interest This is a valuable opportunity to support workforce development and shape the future of healthcare science in Scotland.

Applications for the expression of interest:

  • open Monday 1st September at 9am
  • close Friday 10th October at 5pm
  • application form is available (from 01/09/25) by selecting the following link
  • PDF version of the application form is available by selecting the following link. (Microsoft Form version uses branching options. The form is designed to show only the questions that are relevant based on the individual's responses, so some sections may not apply to every application).

Please note: As this funding is allocated to supernumerary training posts, we require an external recruitment process to be undertaken. The funding is allocated on a strict scoring system which considers factors such as workforce demand, training capacity and alignment with national priorities.  Funding can only be used to support the trainee to attainment of statutory / professional registration dependent on the profession. It cannot be used to support further training and regular checks of the registers will be undertaken.
